K-12 Social Studies Coordinator

This posting is exclusive to current NAPS educators. This position is for the school year only. Will work for 2-3 Hours per day for 2 days per week.

The anticipated start date is August 28, 2023. The position offers a stipend of $2,500.

Description: To coordinate the development and implementation of the social studies curriculum and the work of the social studies teachers, primarily in grades K-6 but also in collaboration with the 7-12 Director of Curriculum and Instruction and secondary Team Leaders.

 Performance Responsibilities:                      

1.     Organize and support staff to continuously work on horizontal and vertical alignment of the K-12 social studies/history curriculum, including bridging between the old and current frameworks.

2.     Engage in the curriculum review process and participate in committees as needed to consider new curricula adoptions or revisions.

3.     Provide leadership for the overall development and improvement of the social studies program.

4.     Oversee collection and organization of the student achievement data in the content area; develop assessment plans for literacy in the content area.

5.     Support teachers and buildings and district administrators in the appropriate use of related data to inform decision making.

6.     Support teachers and building/district teachers and administrators in the use of technology as it relates to math instruction.

7.     Any other related duties that may be assigned by administration.

Requirements:        Master’s Degree. DESE Certification (or eligibility for certification) in social studies/history at any level, or educator certification with a social studies assignment. Fluency in basic computer skills.   Preferred:  Supervisory experience. Experience in the development of curriculum. Data/inquiry driven decision making experience. 

Physical Requirements:         The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting and climbing stairs and step stool whenever necessary.  Activities also include moderate physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects.  The position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds occasionally.  There is a frequent requirement of fine manipulation associated with the required use of a computer, typewriter, keyboard, calculator, and other business machines.
