NORTH ADAMS PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO HOST PRE-K APPLICATION, KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION, AND SCREENINGS FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2024-2025 North Adams Public Schools will host in-person PreK application, Kindergarten registration, and screenings for both grades in preparation for the 2024-2025 school year. PreK children must be 3 or 4 years of age by August 31, 2024. Kindergarten children must be 5 years of age by August 31, 2024. PreK students currently enrolled in North Adams Public Schools do not need to register. Parents/guardians must make an appointment for each application/registration: no walk-ins will be accommodated. All screenings will take place at the North Adams Armory located at 206 Ashland Street, North Adams between the hours of 9AM and 2PM. To schedule an appointment, please call Carrie Silva at the North Adams Public Schools Central Office at (413) 776-1673. PreK Application & Screening Dates: March 25th and 26th, 2024 Kindergarten Registration & Screening Dates: March 27th and 28th, 2024 Additional Information: Parents/guardians should be prepared to bring all of the following to their appointment: Your child Child's birth certificate Child's current physical exam/immunization record, signed by their doctor (must be from within the last 13 months) Any additional medical records you think we may need (ie. asthma, food allergies) Proof of residency (must have all of these 3 items) 1. Valid driver's license or photo ID (passports are also acceptable) 2. Copy of utility bill (electric, heat, cable, water, etc.) dated within the last 60 days 3. One of the following: Recent mortgage statement, copy of lease/rental agreement, or letter from housing office If applicable, please bring any legal/court documentation (i.e. sole custody, legal guardianship, name changes, adoption, DCF paperwork, etc.) For enrollment questions or concerns, please contact Carrie Silva at 413-776-1673 or email at csilva@napsk12.org.

COLORISM 101: HISTORY, HOW IT WORKS, RESISTANCE STRATEGIES ON FEBRUARY 7, 2024 AT 6 PM The NAACP, Berkshire County Branch invites the public to join the branch and our special guest Assistant Professor of Africana Studies at Williams, Dr. VaNatta S. Ford for Colorism 101. During this presentation Dr. Ford will discuss the history of colorism, how it functions, and strategies to resist colorist behaviors and practices. Colorism has been defined as the privileging of light skin tone over dark skin tone. The stigma of colorism continues to produce discord, distrust, discrimination, and cultural disconnects between Black and White individuals as well as within the Black American family and community. North Adams Mobile Food Bank Friday, 1/19 11am to noon All are welcome! There are no eligibility requirements to participate. FREE produce and grocery items are provided by the Food Bank of W. MA. The Food Bank also has SNAP Outreach staff that can help folks apply for SNAP benefits. Folks can call the Food Bank’s SNAP line at 413.992.6204 and one of the Coordinators can quickly tell you if you’re eligible and help you apply for SNAP benefits over the phone.
